KTM 690 SMC R Overview

Don’t let its size fool you—KTM is tagging the little 690 SMC R supermoto as a ‘street slayer’ that lets its rider express their riding talent on mountain roads and track. Updated in 2019, the target-market street hooligans can get their hands on this bike with a price of P610,000.

The features list includes a lightweight handlebar that is rubber-mounted to reduce vibrations, with its width and shape that aims to provide optimum control in various situations. The frame, meanwhile, is engineered with high torsional rigidity to give better handling and ride. On top of this is a seat made in a grippy material. Ride modes are also present: ‘Street’ mode allows for quicker throttle response, while ‘Sport’ reduces traction control intervention to allow drifts and full control of the slide, should the rider be inclined to do such maneuvers.

A single-cylinder 693cc engine powers the 690 SMC R, producing 74 hp and 74 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed transmission that utilizes a slipper clutch. Those numbers are also maximized through a quick-shifter feature in the gearbox. A lighter exhaust that makes a sportier sound can be optioned.

Aside from the mention traction control, disc brakes are also part of the 690 SMC R’s safety features.
