The Yamaha YZF-R7 lands in the Philippines at P569,000

Yamaha's newest middleweight sportbike has entered the local market.

In 2020, Yamah announced that it would stop production of the YZF-R6. Much to the disdain of sportbike lovers all over the world, the much-loved R6 would continue life as a track-only motorcycle in the European market. The Tuning Fork Company did, however, release a replacement to the R6 in the form of the YZF-R7

Based on the same platform as the Yamaha MT-07, the YZF-R7 sports the same CP2 engine. It consists of a 689cc parallel-twin engine equipped with a 270-degree crankshaft. It has a maximum power output of around 73 horsepower, as well as sharp handling characteristics thanks to inverted front forks as well race-ready supersport ergonomics. Its styling is very much similar to that of the R6, too, featuring a menacing front fascia and concealed LED running lights.

The Yamaha YZF-R7 has been available in the US and Europe for over a year now, but it seems that Yamaha is only now introducing it in the local market.  When asked about its retail price, they said the R7 would retail for P569,000—a pretty penny, considering its rather humble underpinnings. That said, the R7 serves as a potent tool for those looking for a track-focused machine. It also makes for a rather practical sportbike thanks to its wide range of usable power, lightweight chassis, and easily configurable adjustable suspension.

The 60th Anniversary Edition YZF-R7 also made an appearance in the Inside Racing Bike Fest, however, Yamaha has yet to reveal the pricing of this limited-edition model. It does, however, get a fancy livery consisting of Yamaha’s iconic white and red color scheme and famed Speed Blocks pattern seen in the racing machines of the likes of Kenny Roberts. This colorway also made an appearance in the 2021 World SBK Championship. Stay tuned for more details regarding the pricing and availability of the new Yamaha YZF-R7.
