Yamaha unveils the YZF-R1 Petronas MotoGP limited edition
It will make you want to go as fast as Fabio Quartararo.
Yamaha Europe, together with Yamaha Austria Racing Team (YART) has just introduced 46 individually numbered YZF-R1 Petronas Sepang MotoGP replica models to be sold exclusively in Europe. The limited-edition sportbike commemorates the partnership between Yamaha and Petronas for the past 46 years featuring an easily recognizable color scheme, and some performance track-worthy upgrades.
Yamaha’s satellite racing team, Petronas SRT Yamaha only entered the MotoGP races in 2019. During that season, the team was able to nab six pole positions, seven podium finishes, the Independent Team Championship, and the Independent Team Rider’s title. This season, despite the delayed start, Petronas rider Fabio Quartararo was able to secure two victories at Jerez while his teammate Franco Morbidelli got his first podium finish during the Czech Republic Grand Prix.
As Yamaha and Petronas celebrate their 46 years of partnership, the newly unveiled YZF-R1 features the same signature black and teal racing livery as its MotoGP YZR-M1 racebike. It features a Genuine Yamaha Technology For Racing (GYTR) carbon fairing kit, MotoGP Winglets, and racing footrests directly adapted from its YZR-M1 race machine. It also has a sculpted MotoGP-style tank cover, trimmed-down tail section, stepped-up seat, raised windshield, and gold-colored racing forks.
The Yamaha YZF-R1 Petronas Sepang MotoGP limited edition is powered by a 998 cc liquid-cooled, 4-cylinder, DOHC engine that’s capable of churning out a hefty 197 hp at 13,500 RPM and 112.4 Nm of torque at 11,500 RPM. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
To bring down the bike’s speeds, a pair of Brembo disc brakes with GP4-RX calipers and T-drive rotors put it to a stop. Meanwhile, Öhlins suspension systems including the FGRT 2 forks for the front and a TTX rear mono-shock make sure your tires are hugging the road even as you go over road bumps. It also includes a race-specific steering damper, an ECU, a quick-action throttle system, and Michelin performance tires.
Razlan Razali, owner of the Petronas SRT Yamaha racing team was more than excited to introduce the project and the team’s success.
We are extremely excited about this project which highlights our success as a team as the first satellite Yamaha squad to score a MotoGP victory in over 20 years. I am sure the lucky owners of this bike will be extremely satisfied with not only having a great track day powerful machine but be part of building our success story in MotoGP by owning this limited-edition livery.
The Yamaha YZF-R1 Petronas Sepang MotoGP limited edition is priced at 46,000 Euros or around P2,635,000. However, every customer will get more than just a bike. Each customer will also receive an exclusive package that includes a KYT helmet, a Petronas Yamaha SRT polo shirt, and a chance to get VIP access for any MotoGP race of their choice.
