KTM brings some updates to the 2022 1290 Super Duke GT
This beast is ready to go the distance.
When you think of sport-tourers, KTM isn’t always the first to come to mind. The Austrian manufacturer, after all, is known for its dirt bikes and aggressive street and adventure machines. However, Team Orange does have a sport-tourer in the form of the 1290 Super Duke GT. This bike, which many people consider to be a hyper-sport-tourer, is based on the 1290 Super Duke R, which is also considered as one of the most bonkers naked street bikes in the market.
That being said, the KTM 1290 Super Duke GT has been given a much-needed refresh for the 2022 model-year. Just like its naked sibling, the new Super Duke GT delivers tons of performance. However, it presents its beastly nature in a slightly more sensible package. With the sport-touring segment rapidly gaining popularity both locally and across the globe, there’s no denying that the market is ready for the new 1290 Super Duke GT. Let’s take a closer look, shall we?
For starters, the biggest change to the bike can be seen in its styling. The 2022 1290 Super Duke GT now gets full LED headlights which adopt the similar insectoid styling we see in the Super Duke R. It features a huge fairing, windscreen, and fuel tank, all of which are optimized to deliver maximum long-distance convenience. KTM has designed the bike’s bodywork to look extremely aggressive. Just like all other bikes in KTM’s roster, the Super Duke GT clearly means business with its muscular lines, aggressive stance, and of course, groundbreaking performance.
This brings us to the engine. The 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT shares the same engine as its naked sibling. Beneath the fairings we find the legendary 1,301cc LC8 V-twin motor. It churns out an astounding 175 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, yet somehow manages to conform to Euro 5 emissions standards. Of course, the Super Duke GT also gets a sharp, lightweight chassis consisting of a steel trellis frame. It sets itself apart from the R thanks to a reinforced subframe designed to carry a pillion, as well as support the weight of a full set of panniers.
Last but not least, the 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT brings a whole suite of sophisticated electronic rider aids to the table. We find IMU-powered assists such as cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, as well as multiple riding modes. The new bike rides on top-shelf WP semi-active suspension, ensuring maximum comfort and performance across varying road surfaces. At present, there’s still no word as to when the new 1290 Super Duke GT will make its way to the Philippines. We’ll have to wait and see what the folks over at KTM have in store for us at the turn of the year.
