Feast your eyes on the 2024 Yamaha XSR900 GP
The XSR900 GP pays homage to Yamaha’s rich racing legacy while fully embracing cutting-edge technology.
In the world of motorcycles, Yamaha is a name synonymous with power, style, and innovation. On October 24, 2023, Yamaha Motor Europe unveiled the 2024 XSR900 GP, a bike that perfectly marries modern technology with the iconic race-inspired styling of the '80s and '90s.
At the core of the XSR900 GP lies an 890cc liquid-cooled, three-cylinder engine, packing a punch of around 117.3 horsepower and 93 Nm of torque. This modern powerhouse is concealed within a design that pays homage to the golden era of racing. Yamaha, with its rich racing heritage, reintroduces the Deltabox frame. Originally crafted for Yamaha's GP racers in the '80s, this frame has been meticulously refined, now forming the robust foundation of the 2024 XSR900 GP. It delivers enhanced stability and precise control.
Performance enthusiasts will revel in the fully adjustable KYB components in both the front and rear, ensuring a responsive and comfortable ride. When it's time to stop, a dual caliper setup in the front embraces a pair of 298mm brake discs. In the rear, a single caliper manages a 245mm brake disc. The motorcycle glides on Yamaha spinforged aluminum wheels clad in Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 rubber, ensuring impeccable road grip.
The XSR900 GP is a visual masterpiece, drawing inspiration from YZR Grand Prix racers. The front fairing, seat hump, and the passenger seat cover's slab-sided design all echo the spirit of legendary racing machines. Yet, there's more to discover upon closer inspection. Yamaha has reimagined the riding experience, adding riser clip-on handlebars above the top yoke, enabling the rider to crouch forward and shift more weight over the front wheel. Adjustable die-cast aluminum foot pegs complete the sporty seating position, offering comfort during exhilarating rides.
The XSR900 GP integrates modern technology seamlessly. A five-inch full-color TFT display with smartphone connectivity is a nod to contemporary riders' needs. An advanced six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) governs an array of rider aids, including lean-sensitive traction control, ABS, slide control, and wheelie control. For those who demand personalization, the XSR900 GP offers three preset riding modes: Sport, Street, and Rain, ensuring peak performance in varying conditions. Additionally, a custom mode allows riders to manually configure settings to match their unique preferences.
As of now, Yamaha has yet to announce the 2024 XSR900 GP's availability in the Philippine market. Given that the standard XSR900 retails for P729,000, one can reasonably expect a higher price tag for the XSR900 GP, given its enhanced features and racing-inspired aesthetics. While we await more information from Yamaha, the 2024 XSR900 GP has already captured the imaginations of riders and collectors. With its fusion of classic styling and modern performance, it serves as a testament to Yamaha's dedication to crafting motorcycles that pay homage to the past while embracing the future.
