BMW officially unveils 2022 K 1600 series touring bikes
These heavyweight tourers have finally been given a much-needed update.
BMW Motorrad has finally pulled the covers off the 2022 K 1600 series of heavyweight sport tourers. Next year’s model lineup of K bikes consists of the K 1600 GT, GTL, B, and Grand America. While retaining the original touring spirit of the K 1600, all these bikes feature cutting-edge technology, as well as styling revisions which really bring the bike to the modern age. Let’s take a closer look at the Bavarian company’s reworked tourers, shall we?
Powering the K 1600 is a 1,649cc inline six-cylinder motor which produces a healthy 160 horsepower at 6,750 RPM. Torque is now bumped up to 132.7 ft-lbs at 5,250 RPM. Keeping tabs on engine performance is BMW’s proprietary engine drag torque control, which now comes as standard across the entire K 1600 model range. Apart from the mild revisions to the engine, the 2022 K 1600 model range gets BMW’s Dynamic ESA electronic suspension system which offers automatic load compensation depending on whether you’re traveling unloaded, with cargo, or with a passenger.
The new K 1600 model range now gets a full-LED headlight with adaptive cornering function, as well as a 10.25-inch full-color TFT display. This massive tablet isn’t all just for show. It’s complete with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, and serves as the control module for you to toggle all the bike’s high-tech electronic features. To top it all off, the bike gets a new smartphone charging compartment with a USB Type-C charging outlet. Apart from all the impressive as-standard componentry, there’s also an extensive list of premium optional add-ons which make this grand tourer even better. For instance, you can opt for BMW’s new Audio System 2.0, which has the ability to integrate an Intelligent eCall emergency system. Of course, all accessories from the previous model range have been carried over, too.
Last but not least, the K 1600 range gets a new range of color options. For starters, the K 1600 GT is available in either Black Storm Metallic, Style Sport (BMW tricolor), or Option 719 Mineral which is an elegant paint job consisting of a metallic white base with stripes. The K 1600 GTL, likewise, can be purchased in either Black Storm Metallic, Style Exclusive (Gravity Blue metallic), or Option 719 Mineral. Lastly, both the K 1600 B and Grand America are available in either Black Storm Metallic, Style Exclusive (Manhattan Metallic Matte, a sort of matte bronze color), or Option 719 Midnight.
