The likes of the KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 400 could soon have an Italian rival.

The Italian motorcycle company Aprilia has worked to increase its accessibility to a larger variety of riders in recent years. In order to do this, it introduced smaller, more approachable versions while also expanding its footprint in other countries, especially in Asia. For example, the Italian business has been doing really well with the SR GT 200 in the local market.

The 660 line of bikes did, in fact, fill the gap between middleweight bikes and Aprilia's sport and sport-touring models in the liter class. In fact, some people believe that the RS 660 is among the greatest middleweight sportbikes available right now. As was already said, the Aprilia SR GT adventure scooter has gained enormous popularity. A split headlamp, aggressive bodywork, and liveries like those of Aprilia's racing bikes give it distinctive Aprilia look.

The RSV4 and Tuono V4 serve as Aprilia's top-tier liter-class models, while in 660 guise, the RS, Tuono, and Tuareg serve as the company's mid-tier lineup, and the SR GT serves as the company's beginner-focused scooter model. The only item still lacking is a beginner-focused sportbike model. Given that a test mule was recently seen in India, this may very well be the project Aprilia is working on.

Indeed, we can discern a few elements of the forthcoming sportbike from the spy shot. For instance, it sports a single disc brake up front and inverted front forks. A cursory glimpse of the fascia reveals that this little sportbike has taken many aesthetic elements from its larger brothers. The bike has been covered with black and white camouflage from top to bottom, so it's difficult to see any further features owing to the low image resolution.
