Alpinestars introduces its inflatable airbag lineup for 2022
The new Tech-Air 3 could be its most affordable wearable airbag yet.
Inflatable airbags have long held the promise of safer motorcycling. These ingenious devices have the potential to reduce bike-related crashes and accidents by several orders of magnitude. While no single product has entered the mainstream, Alpinestars aims to change that.
The Italian brand is one of the world's renowned motorsport equipment manufacturers. Its solid reputation has it beloved by fans and trusted by professionals. It notably outfits some of the best MotoGP racers, including the reigning champion, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Fabio Quartararo.
At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Alpinestars gave us a glimpse of its latest inflatable airbag lineup. The company announced three new wearable airbags at the trade show: the Tech-Air 10, Tech-Air 3, and Tech-Air Off Road V2. These new products add to the Tech-Air 5, giving Alpinestars a more comprehensive product line.
The Tech-Air 10 presents a total protection system that offers security to the rider's chest, shoulders, back, and hips. The product is compatible with any Alpinestars Tech-Air ready suit and suits from any manufacturer with 4 cm space on the chest and 2 cm at the hips.
Meanwhile, the Tech-Air 3 could become the most affordable product in the lineup. It's pegged as an entry-level system built for commuters and road riders. The Tech-Air 3 is an over-the-jacket vest designed for all-weather use. It's also lightweight and easily foldable for supreme portability.
Lastly, there's the Tech-Air Off Road V2. The product has been updated following three years of research at the Dakar Rally. As the name implies, this entry is best for off-roading as it's designed for protection in the dirt.
Alpinestars has not yet released pricing information, but it's encouraging to see the brand expand its lineup and offer more affordable products. For comparison, the Tech-Air 5 retails for $749.95 USD or around P38,300. The Tech-Air 3 will likely cost less than that, perhaps under $500 or P25,500. These products are not yet available for direct purchase locally, but interested buyers could have them shipped from abroad.
